President Joko Widodo is pondering four candidates for Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI). All are ”old faces,” previously serving as finance minister or as members of BI’s board of governors. This is because he is prioritizing candidates who have the experience and ability to manage monetary policy.
Current BI governor, Agus Martowardojo, will end his term in May. Based on Law No. 23/1999 on Bank Indonesia, President Joko is preparing the names of candidates to be proposed and submitted for approval to the House of Representatives (DPR).
